Listen Closely, God May be Whispering

May 11, 2017December 18, 2020 By Deb Obermeier

After I had decided my granddaughter was right, we did need to write a book…and I did it, looking at publishing options was overwhelming.

I wanted to make smart choices, and I thought I did. In hindsight, I realize how poor the quality of my book actually was once it was in print.

Now, by the Grace of God, He has put an amazing person on my path that is my new publisher. The revision is so professionally done. The choices are mine. She makes sure they are exactly what I want and perfect before moving forward.

When it came to the new cover design, she wanted my vision of what I wanted. I searched stock photos, and nothing appealed to me. I started to look at my surroundings and tried to stage a couple of settings, but nothing worked. Then, like a flash, it came to me. I went into my dining room and took a picture of the old window box a friend gave me 15+ years ago for my birthday. I had added an oil painting that I removed from its frame and placed behind the window a few years ago. It was perfect! It is now the cover of A Simple Stitch, A Common Thread and it paints a much better picture of what the book is actually about.

Nice, I know. But here’s the thing; yesterday I was looking through a sketch pad that I play around with from time to time, and I came across this sketch from 2014, when I was striving to get across to my first publisher what my cover idea was.  I was speechless! I had forgotten about this sketch, this idea for the cover. It seems so long ago, and now it’s a reality.

It’s all in God’s timing.

I pray about everything. I ask for guidance. I listen. But as I have learned with the first publisher and in many other instances throughout my life, it wasn’t in God’s timing. I was hearing what I wanted to hear, not listening closely…for a God that often whispers.

So now, with Words Matter Publishing on my path, and answered prayers, I continue to give the credit to God. As I near the finish line with my sequel, knowing that it won’t be the last in this comforting series, I sit quietly, often, and listen for guidance.
